Building Bridges That Matter: Reflections from My First Months at Home Works
As we look toward closing out the first quarter of 2026 and I’ve had the opportunity to get more settled into my new role at Home Works, I can’t help but reflect on the themes revealed, the insights learned, and the joy I’ve experienced during my first few months here.
It’s no April Fool’s joke, Home Works is truly doing the work to build bridges between home and school.
I’ve had the privilege of witnessing our program in action over the last couple of months and it’s so powerful to see and hear how teachers, families, and students are impacted by the connections built through our program. From home visit testimonials to conversations shared at dinners, to feedback given by teachers at trainings, I have a better understanding of the scope of our work and what it will take to move us forward in the most intentional, sustainable, and impactful way.
Some things I have learned include:
Teachers want the opportunity to connect with their students and families in a way that encourages better understanding of how students show up, and helps teachers feel more prepared to support their students.
Families appreciate the opportunity to build relationships and trust with their children's teachers and school community. This trust leads to caregivers feeling supported and empowered to be the champions of their children’s lives.
Students LOVE meeting with their teachers outside of school, in a setting that doesn’t have to feel like a parent-teacher conference. Our program gives them the opportunity to feel safe and seen so they can thrive in their classrooms and beyond.
Our Home Works team is also incredibly passionate about the work we do and are eager to continue growing their skillset to ensure that the programs we deliver live up to the expectations we have set.
Thank you so much for your support of Home Works - this impactful work is not possible without you. I am proud to be part of this team and look forward to continuing the work that has been done and growing our programming to reach more teachers and families.
