Sharing Stories, Inspiring Change: Home Works at the 2026 NAFSCE Assembly

Our leadership team is still glowing from a meaningful trip to San Diego for NAFSCE’s 2026 National Assembly for Family Engagement in Education!

What an energizing opportunity to connect with practitioners from across the country to share in community, exchange ideas, and align on next steps to expand the depth and reach of family engagement programs across our country’s schools.

Home Works CEO, Ashli Florek, and our Director of Program and Community Engagement, Lauren Campbell, led a session entitled, “Stories, Not Just Statistics: Rethinking Data in Family Engagement.” This workshop explored why family engagement programs need to go beyond collecting and reporting quantitative data and numerical outcomes. While numbers help us understand program reach, participation, and outcomes, they don’t always capture the full picture.

Bringing voices from across the country together! Family engagement practitioners from Hawaii to D.C. joined Ashli and Lauren to explore the stories behind the statistics.

To truly understand impact, we must also collect, value, and share qualitative data including the voices, stories, and perspectives of the families, students, and educators at the heart of our work. These lived experiences help us not just understand what is happening, but also why it matters.

Thank you to everyone who joined our session and contributed to this important dialogue! As one of our workshop participants mentioned, it’s so important to continue creating safe spaces to talk about these topics. A special thanks goes out to our evaluation team, Amber Lewis and Goshen Education Consulting, for your thoughtful partnership in this work.

Meaningful family engagement deserves meaningful measurement to honor both the numbers and the people behind them!
